Data Entry Clerk Jobs

Once upon a time there was a company based in the south western suburbs of Sydney which employed clerks to handle all of its menial administration tasks. They would type all day, stopping only to staple a pile of documents together or remove a paper clip. Data entry clerk jobs are a thing of the past like dinosaurs and good manners. This sort of work is increasingly being outsourced, performed by home based computer nerds with the ability to type faster than they can talk.

There was a woman working for this company. She was known as an office worker to the men and women who worked on the factory floor. She was one of six women employed to take care of administrative duties in the offices. One person was in charge of the filing, while another was responsible for answering phones. This woman was a data entry clerk and handled all of the typing jobs that involved entering data into spreadsheets and word processing documents.

When I was a child I fantasized about becoming a data entry clerk. The jobs they performed always seemed so exciting to me. I wanted to wear the rubber thimble and count the time cards. I wanted to use the giant calculators to work out the pays for all of the employees. It wasn’t until I was mid way through high school that I realised that becoming a data entry clerk would be like entering a nightmare and not being able to wake up. I’m actually quite happy with the way things turned out and the career path I chose.
